I have an annoying habit that drives my wife crazy. But I really didn't know how annoying it was until I experienced something similar from her point of view. Ever graze your hand across your face and find a hair that you've never noticed before and then it starts an obsession to remove it. I was sitting down to lunch with a client and at the end of our meal we were discussing things of the world and family when all of a sudden, out of the corner of my eye, I saw that he VIOLENTLY jerked his hand away from his face. I ignored it but was curious at what happened and didn't mention anything. However, the next time I was waiting for it. Apparently, he took this opportunity to share his grooming habits by viciously ripping his uneven eyebrow hairs from their perch. OH MY! I let it go for a little while but couldn't stand the now obsessive behavior to remove his hair while at the lunch table and I excused myself.
To my wife...
I am so sorry that you have had to endure this similar behavior from me in the past. I will try better to keep my eyebrows, ears, nose and neck (or whatever other facial hairs that appear to be unkempt) better groomed. At times, I am sure parts of my face look like a recently exploded New Years party favor or resemble a freshly blown noise maker and they need better tending to. In your presence (and in the car) is probably not the best opportunity to address my personal hygiene and I am sorry.
